Ice Skating

While there are certainly Canadians who can’t skate (myself included 😅), most Canadians probably view ice skating as a basic skill that all children should have the opportunity to learn, similar to riding a bike. There are 8 ice rinks in Vancouver and some of which offer year-round skating and ice activities.

Good to know

  • Public skating requires no registration, just show up!
  • Skate rentals are available for both kids and grown-ups.
  • Helmets are available for free and are required for children 12 and under.
  • The number of skating aids is limited (and very popular) during family skate sessions so it’s a good idea to show up early.
  • “Parent and Preschooler Skate” is only for children 5 years and younger, and they must be supervised on the ice by someone 16 or older.
  • See ice rink admission fees and skate rental fees.
